What is iddeate?

iddeate is a nonprofit, public charity where adults with an intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) can connect with donors to provide resources that will provide meaningful impact in their lives.

Adults with IDD, family members, or caregivers are able to request funding for items in the following resource request categories:

  • Coaching support (job, financial, life skills, communication, social skills, etc.)
  • Continuing education or certifications
  • Social skills/peer groups

  • Employment and job skills
  • Technology
  • Entrepreneurship support
  • Arts and crafts

Who can use iddeate?

Currently, family members or caregivers or any adult (18+) with a documented intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) permanently residing in Colorado, New Jersey, or Ohio can use iddeate. Donors can be a family member, friend, or member of the public residing in any U.S. state.

How does it work?

Family members or caregivers or any adult (18+) with a documented intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) permanently residing in Colorado, New Jersey, or Ohio can submit a resource request by writing a brief essay and completing some simple forms, starting with our sign up form. We screen resource requests to ensure they will have the intended impact and confirm the cost and availability of the requested resource.

Then, the resource request is posted on the site for four months (120 days). Donors can give as little as $5 to the resource request that speaks to them. If a resource request reaches its funding goal, iddeate takes care of fulfillment of that request and facilitates the donor thank you kit process.

What is the criteria for an approved resource request?

  1. All requested resource materials must be used by the individual and provide meaningful impact in their lives.
  2. Approved resource requests must fulfill the spirit of our mission of enabling independence, personal development, or job attainment.
  3. The resource request must not provide a financial benefit (e.g. commission, profit, dividends) to the adult with IDD or their family or friends, or demonstrate a conflict of interest between an adult with IDD and a vendor or provider.
  4. The resource request essay cannot include legal disclaimers, promises of rewards or other promotional language.
  5. We encourage you to submit resource requests that can be carried out at any time of year, as it can take up to four months for a resource request to be fully funded.
